Kee Construction began work on the Hammerschmidt parking lot expansion project in the village of Lombard on Wednesday.
A large portion of the project will be completed by October, with final completion set for November.
Preparatory work includes tree protection and trimming, crosswalk stripping, and AT&T utility relocation.
Beginning on Friday, sidewalks along the south side of St. Charles Road will be closed and will remain closed for the duration of the process
Five existing parking spaces on the west end of the current Hammerschmidt lot will be removed to permit access to the new lot, and several other spaces will be temporarily closed during construction.
The project will provide commuters with an additional 92 parking spaces.
