State Sen. Dan Kotowski's (D-IL) legislation giving Illinois families with children diagnosed with Down Syndrome more resources was passed into law Monday, on the 25th anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act.
"It is fitting that this legislation was signed into law on this historic day," Kotowski said. "Thanks to the hard work of the Illinois Down Syndrome Coalition and many other advocates, people with Down Syndrome will have more resources to live the best life possible."
The new law creates the Down Syndrome Information and Awareness Act, which will require the Illinois Department of Public Health to provide current information about Down Syndrome and local support groups to the doctors and families of children diagnosed with Down Sydrome.
Illinois joins Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Kentucky and Massachusetts in implementing the new program.
