U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) on Wednesday announced that communities across Illinois have received grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) totaling roughly $3.1 million.

“This federal funding will ensure that when fires or other emergencies occur in our communities, our nation’s firefighters and first responders have access to the best resources and the equipment necessary to help protect them as they protect us,” Durbin said.

The Manteno Community Fire Protection District and North Chicago Fire Department received funding for hiring.

North Palos Fire Protection District, Waukegan Fire Department, City of Marion, Illinois Fire Department and Midlothian Fire Department received funding for vehicle acquisition.

Also Libertyville Fire Department, Urbana Fire Department, Decatur Fire & Rescue, Springfield Fire Department and Elmhurst Fire Department received funding that will be used for operations and safety.
