West Chicago's National Night Out set for Aug. 4

Wc

The annual National Night Out will be held for West Chicago neighborhoods Aug. 4 at Reed-Keppler Park, 201 W. National St., from 6-8:30 p.m.

The aim of National Night Out is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals to let them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime.

Residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on their outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.

The event will feature elected officials and law enforcement officers, as well as information on crime prevention. Displays, vehicles and demonstrations will also be available.

"This is a night for America to stand together to promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity," West Chicago Police Officer Robyn Nielsen said. "On Aug. 4, we invite neighborhoods to join us in giving crime and drugs a going-away party.”

The event is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the West Chicago Police Department.
