The DuPage River Salt Creek Workgroup has announced it will survey fish, macroinvertebrates, physical habitat and water column and sediment chemistry at 41 sites in the West Branch DuPage River watershed this summer.
The information gathered will be used to assess the health of rivers and streams in the area, as well as identify and evaluate projects to improve water quality. The organization has contracted with Midwest Biodiversity Institute and Suburban Laboratories Inc. to complete biological, habitat and water chemistry sampling.
Required permits for the biological collections have been obtained and sampling staff are in receipt of copies, the organization said.
Most sampling locations are at bridge crossings. Some, however, will be accessed from bike paths or Forest Preserve District service roads.
