Rep. Hultgren welcomes news of preclearance negotiations with Sweden

Hultgren

U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-IL) received news Tuesday that the U.S. intends to enter into negotiations to expand air preclearance operations to ten new foreign airports, including Stockholm Arlanda in Sweden.

“This move toward more open and efficient travel is welcome news for our economic and political relationship with Sweden and the other nations involved," Hultgren said. "Not only does this improve the convenience of foreign business and tourist travelers to come to America, it improves our security and ability to screen potential threats before they reach our shores. Reducing wait times upon arrival to domestic airports and protecting our country make preclearance a no brainer. As someone of Swedish heritage, I especially look forward to further strengthening our economic relationship with our good friend Sweden through ease of travel."

To date, the U.S. is the third largest Swedish export trade partner. American companies are the most represented foreign companies in Sweden.

Hultgren is the founder of the Friends of Sweden Caucus.
