State Rep. Kathleen Willis (D-77th) has co-sponsored a bill that would award a tax credit to businesses that enter job training partnerships with community colleges.
“For Illinois to compete economically on the national and international stage, we need a skilled workforce that is knowledgeable about occupations in demand,” Willis said. “This bill will bring business and higher education together to collaborate on creating the workforce of tomorrow.”
Under the bill, businesses would be permitted to work with community colleges and vocational schools to create coursework, educational programs and curriculum focused on the skills necessary within a specific industry. In addition to the tax credit, businesses would benefit by participating in free employee training and development, and community colleges would likely see an increase in post-education rates of students.
“Economic recovery occurs through bringing different invested parties together to collaborate for job creation,” Willis said. “This bill is a good step in developing win-win scenarios for all parties by bringing education and business together to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing Illinois.”
