Lombard named seventh-best Chicago suburb for young professionals
The Village of Lombard announced yesterday it has been ranked the seventh-best place for young professionals among Chicago suburbs.
The list was compiled by Movoto, an online real estate brokerage based in San Mateo, California. Movoto’s blog has been recognized for its unique approach to city-based research by major news organizations around the world such as Forbes and CBS News.
Movoto wrote that Lombard is “as about as perfect as it gets” because of Lilac Time, when a giant parade honors its beautiful flowers; a Fourth of July fireworks festival; and the holiday tree lighting. More than 100 Chicago suburbs were evaluated based on key factors including the percentage of residents with a bachelor’s degree; the percentage of 22- to 29-year-olds; the unemployment rate; median earnings; the percentage of residents working in management, business, financial or other professions; and the cost of living.
Nearly 11.5 percent of Lombard residents are 22 to 29 years old and more than 27 percent have bachelors’ degrees. Movoto called the village’s young and well-educated population “just the cherry on top.”
