Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) announced Monday that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) have awarded $674,39 in grants and vouchers to broaden services and housing for veterans across Illinois.
“Last night, in Illinois alone, more than 1,200 homeless veterans were on the street," Durbin said. "This country can do better—and must do better—for the brave men and women who have sacrificed for our nation honorably. This funding is a reflection of the promise we made to the men and women who serve this country to provide them with the housing and the health services assistance they earned during their service."
Organizations benefiting from the investment include Peoria Housing Authority, Springfield Housing Authority, Champaign County, Decatur Housing Authority, Rockford Housing Authority, Housing Authority of the City of Waukegan, Whiteside County Housing Authority, Aurora Housing Authority and McHenry County Housing Authority.
