U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) spoke on the U.S. Senate floor on April 14 to offer his condolences to Illinois families impacted by the recent, deadly tornadoes that have ravaged communities throughout the state, as well as to commend state and local forces for their response.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families and first responders in North Central Illinois today, who are sorting through debris after deadly tornadoes tore through the area last Thursday evening,” Durbin said. “As is so often the case, when a disaster like this strikes, first responders and friends and family members wasted no time rushing to the aid of people whose homes and businesses were damaged. I have no doubt that the people in Fairdale, Rochelle and all of the other areas that were struck will clean up and rebuild. The Illinois delegation and I stand ready to help in any way we can, particularly if the governor requests federal assistance.”

Gov. Bruce Rauner declared DeKalb and Ogle counties state disaster areas on April 10.
