The Government Consolidation and Unfunded Mandates Task Force met April 8 in Wheaton to outline consolidation measures that have been undertaken in DuPage County as part of the Accountability, Consolidation, Transparency (ACT) initiative, state Sen. Michael Connelly (R-Wheaton) said Friday.
Members of the task force discussed the feasibility of mirroring the state's consolidation measures, as well as legislation that would place a moratorium on the creation of new units of government.
The purpose of the ACT initiative is to address the lack of accountability and transparency identified in a study of 24 independent agencies in the county. The initiative also looks to offer a map for agencies to consider consolidation of services.
The ACT initiative is expected to save taxpayers more than $116 million.
