Lombard amends its building code
The Lombard Village Board approved a number of building code amendments at its April 2 meeting.
The amendments become effective April 13 and ensure the building code complies with recent construction technology and fire safety standards.
Major components of the code amendments include the adoption of the 2012 International Building Code, Residential Code, Fire Code, Mechanical Code, Fuel Gas Code and Property Maintenance Code. Also, the village reviewed and amended several sections of local code to modify permissible construction types, such as Type 3 and 5 construction for selected projects. It also includes changes based upon observed practices and provides for increased flexibility in design.
“The benefits of the code changes are many as it helps ensure that the village’s regulations meet the needs of the community," Community Development Director William Heniff said. “These amendments help ensure that the local code follows accepted construction practices successfully implemented elsewhere in the Chicago area and keeps the village economically competitive as it pertains to the overall costs of construction.”
