DuPage County will soon receive $2.7 million Hazard Mitigation Grant from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to fund the acquisition and demolition of 13 flood-prone residential properties.
“The grant received by DuPage County will enable homeowners to leave high risk areas and prevent the emotional and financial trauma caused by floods,” Rep. Bill Foster (D-IL) said Thursday. “As snow melts and we welcome spring, it is important to remember the risk flooding poses and what our families can do to prepare.”
Foster and the rest of the Illinois Congressional delegation appealed to the Obama Administration for disaster relief following extensive flooding in April 2013. DHS and FEMA will bear 75 percent of the costs for the project.
