U.S. Reps. Bill Foster (D-Ill.) and John Culberson (R-Texas) said on Monday that they will serve as co-chairmen of the Congressional Research and Development Caucus.

“As a scientist and businessman, I believe that a commitment to supporting research and development in the United States is critical to our nation’s long-term economic success," Foster said. "Scientific research and development produces one of the highest returns on investment our nation can make. Now more than ever, it is essential that we support R&D to maintain America’s global competitive advantage.”

Foster is the only physicist serving in Congress. He previously worked at Fermi National Laboratory for over 20 years.

Culberson is chairman of the Commerce, Justice and Science Appropriations Subcommittee.

"The R&D projects our scientists tackle today will shape the world our children and grandchildren inherit and will determine America’s economic and military strength for generations to come," Culberson said.
