U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL) called on high school students on Monday in the Third Congressional District, which he serves, to submit artwork in this year's 2015 Congressional Art Competition.
The winning entry will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. Also, the winner will receive two round-trip tickets to travel to Washington, D.C., in June for the exhibition's opening.
Runners-up will have their artwork displayed in Lipinski's offices for one year.
All artwork must be two-dimensional.
Each piece can be no larger than 28-by-28-by-4 inches, including the frame. If the winning piece is not framed, the artist will be required to frame the artwork within the sizing guidelines.
Artwork cannot weigh more than 15 pounds.
Each entry must be completely original and must not violate U.S. copyright laws.
Winning artwork cannot be returned to the artist during the one-year display period in D.C.
Acceptable media for artwork include paintings -- oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.; drawings -- pastels, colored pencil, charcoal, ink and markers; collage; prints -- lithographs, silk screen and block prints; mixed media, which can include the use of more than two media, such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.; computer-generated art; and photography.
All entries must be received by April 17.
