The Village of Bloomingdale's Finance Department recently earned its 25th consecutive Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association.
The certificate is the highest level of achievement in government accounting and financial reporting. The award represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
Bloomingdale lauded Finance Director Gary Szott and the finance department for being recognized on a consistent basis.
Szott has held the finance director position since May 1991.
Before serving as finance director, he served as the assistant finance director for the city of Wheaton.
Szott is a certified public accountant, a certified public finance officer and holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Rockford College.
He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Government Finance Officer Association of the United States and Canada, and the Illinois Government Finance Officer Association (IGFOA).
Szott also has served as chair of the Intergovernmental Risk Management Agency (IRMA), and served as chair and committee member of IRMA's Finance and Administration Committee.
He is a past president of IGFOA and has served IGFOA in various other capacities, including leading the IGFOA's Career Development Revenue team in developing and providing educational seminars for its members.
