Pressure asserted on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) by U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-IL) and 237 of his colleagues has caused the ATF to retract its plan to ban popular and commonly used ammunition for sporting and home protection firearms.
“ATF’s poorly conceived regulatory ‘framework’ was restrictive and interfered with the Second Amendment rights of Americans who use certain ammunition for sporting and home protection,” Hultgren said. “Law enforcement has expressed that they aren’t threatened by the ammunition, and ATF’s backdoor ban lacked sound justification. I trust ATF will take care and do their due diligence when issuing future regulations on firearms and ammunition.”
James Pasco, the executive director of the national Fraternal Order of Police, said police do not feel threatened by the ammunition.
"Any ammunition is of concern to police in the wrong hands, but this specific round has historically not posed a law enforcement problem," he said.
The ATF announced on March 10 that it will not seek the issuance of a final framework for the rule.
More than 80,000 public comments were received by the ATF, many of which were negative in nature.
