The Village of Downers Grove has taken steps to prepare for the possible loss of state revenue, as outlined in the village's "Long Range Plan for 2013-2015."
Under Gov. Bruce Rauner's proposed 2015-16 budget, the village would see a reduction in Income tax distribution to local governments by 50 percent. As such, the village would receive $2.4 million less in revenue annually.
The village has begun implementing expense reductions that will have a minimal impact on service levels to ensure operating expenses do not exceed revenues by the end of the current fiscal year.
Also, the village is developing a process to engage the council during the village's long-range planning during June and August regarding prioritizations and potential reductions that may be required.
Finally, the village is working closely with other municipalities through the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference and Illinois Municipal League to address the likely impact of the reductions.
