Police officers, citizens honored for courageous acts

The West Chicago City Council recently recognized two private citizens and two West Chicago police officers for their heroic actions.

Private citizens Jacob Schroeder of West Chicago and Brian Donlan of Hoffman Estates were presented with a commendation from Mayor Ruben Pineda.

On Dec. 5, 2014, the men came across a fiery traffic crash. Both men acted quickly and selflessly by extracting two adult men from a vehicle.

"You always wonder if you are going to be the guy that drives by, or if you’ll be the one to stop," Pineda said. "These two gentlemen were selfless and saved two lives by putting others before themselves. They are true heroes."

Also recognized were West Chicago police officers Jonathan Jones and Jeffrey Moos.

On Aug. 30, 2014 and Feb. 5, 2015, Jones administered NARCAN to two individuals who overdosed on drugs, saving both lives.

Moos was recognized for applying shock treatment from an AED device on Jan. 4, 2015 to a man suffering from possible cardiac arrest, saving the person's life.

“The training that our men and women in uniform receive is critical to providing lifesaving responses," Pineda said. "Officers Jones and Moos confidently used their skills and made a difference in the lives of three people and their families."
