Hanover Park Department of Public Works receives Snowfighting award

Hanover

The Salt Institute has presented the Village of Hanover Park's Department of Public Works with the Safe and Sustainable Snowfighting award.

The award recognizes the Illinois village for its environmental consciousness and effective management in the storage of winter road salt.

"We appreciate that our efforts to handle salt in an environmentally responsible way are being recognized," Hanover Park street supervisor Scott Weber said.

A federal study indicates more than 116,000 Americans are injured and over 1,300 killed each year as a result of snow-, ice- or slush-covered pavement. Salt Institute President Lori Roman said trucks spreading salt throughout communities provide a sense of comfort to motorists that the roads are safe.

Roman also said the award indicates Hanover Park cares about the safety of its residents and those who travel through the community.

"If that salt was stored in and spread by a facility honored with a Safe and Sustainable Snowfighting award, motorists have the added assurance of knowing the utmost care has been taken to protect public safety and the environment," she added.
