Duckworth named ranking member of Transportation Subcommittee
U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) was named this week as a ranking member of the Transportation and Public Assets Subcommittee of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
"I want to thank Chairman (Jason) Chaffetz (R-UT), ranking member (Elijah) Cummings (D-MD) and my colleagues on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee for this opportunity," Duckworth said. "I believe that the Transportation and Public Assets Subcommittee can play an important role in making our transportation system more safe and efficient and help our economy grow as a result. I look forward to advocating for my neighbors in Illinois and all Americans as a ranking member."
Duckworth has established herself as a supporter of transportation projects in Illinois' 8th Congressional District, which she represents. Her work includes advocating for the construction of the Elgin-O’Hare Western Access Project. It is expected that the project will generate 65,000 jobs by 2040 and save drivers $145 million annually in fuel costs.
The Transportation and Public Assets Subcommittee is responsible for overseeing the Department of Transportation, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Transportation Security Agency, Federal Emergency Management Agency, the General Services Administration and federal real estate property.
U.S. Rep. John Mica (R-FL) serves as chairman of the subcommittee.
The Transportation and Public Assets Subcommittee is a new subcommittee.
