Bellock sworn in to second term in state legislature

Bellock

State Rep. Patti Bellock (R-Hinsdale), who represents Illinois' 47th District, was recently sworn in for her second term in the state legislature during a ceremony of the 99th General Assembly at the University of Illinois-Springfield.

House GOP Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) also reappointed Bellock to serve as deputy minority leader. She is the first woman in the state's history to serve in that role.

Bellock said she will strive to work in a bipartisan manner to improve the state's economy.

“Illinois’ financial crisis continues to jeopardize the well-being of our state’s most vulnerable families,” Bellock said. “For the first time in 12 years, we have a Republican Governor and a Democrat-led legislature, giving both sides greater incentive to work together and find solutions to common challenges facing families all across Illinois. Chief among our priorities must be jobs and the economy and ensuring that a strong safety net remains in place to provide assistance for the most vulnerable families in our community.”

Bellock said she intends to work with Gov. Bruce Rauner on budgetary and spending measures.

She will also serve as chief budget negotiator for House Republicans and as minority spokesperson on the Human Services Appropriations Committee.
