Illinois state Rep. David Olsen (R-Downers Grove) hosted his second mobile office tour event at the Indian
Prairie Public Library Oct. 7.
This is part of the series that aims to
provide members of his constituency to interact with their new representative
and get to know him better.
The fall mobile offices tour initiated
by Olsen is an effort to make it easier and more convenient for his
constituents at the 81st Legislative House District to communicate with their
elected Springfield official. Through this effort, the Republican member of the
Illinois House of Representatives becomes more accessible to his constituents, especially those who reside far from his Downers Grove District Office. Similar
with his first mobile office tour event, Olsen was also present in the
Indian Prairie Public Library.
“The 81st District includes
portions of seven different municipalities, so I am very aware that my Downers
Grove District Office is not near the homes of many of my constituents,” Olsen said of his mobile office tour. “By holding office hours in other communities, the people I represent in
Springfield can come and share their concerns and ideas.”
In line with his efforts to make
the mobile office tour an open and free avenue for exchange of ideas, concerns
and concepts, no reservations or appointments are necessary to take part of the
event. Olsen also shared his enthusiasm at meeting his constituents personally
and having the opportunity to deal with their concerns one-on-one. The Republican
representative further stated that the mobile office tour could be a great way
for him to clarify some issues and better explain the purpose of his office.
“I look forward to talking
one-on-one with people as I bring my office to them in their own community,” Olsen
said. “I can help explain the services my office can
provide while learning about their personal priorities.”
The first mobile office tour
event by Olsen was held in at the Downers Grove Public Library on Sept. 22.
Olsen received his appointment as
state representative for District 81 on July 30. This came following the sudden decision
of then state Rep. Ron Sandack to resign from the post. Olsen officially
took office on Aug. 30. Prior to his work as state representative, Olsen served
in the Downers Grove Village Council. He was also the vice chairman of the board
for the College of DuPage Trustees.
One of the most notable stances
associated to Olsen is his move to reject the legislative pension in an effort
to fix the fiscal situation of Illinois. According to the Republican
representative, this move is a step toward finding a solution to the pension
crisis plaguing the state at the moment. Olsen noted that the unsustainability
of the pension system of the state, causing constant downgrades in their credit
rating.
Upon assuming office, Olsen has
become part of the committees handling House Education Funding Task Force;
Community College Access and Affordability; and Elementary and Secondary
Education, School Curriculum Policies.
