Illinois Wesleyan University senior guard Sawyer White has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week, according to an announcement made Monday.
White played a key role in helping the 13th-ranked Titans win two out of three games since December 20. During this period, Illinois Wesleyan secured victories over No. 19 Bethel with a score of 78-76 and No. 14 Carroll with a score of 85-52.
White averaged 19.7 points, five assists, four steals, and 1.7 rebounds per game over the three-game stretch. She also became Illinois Wesleyan’s all-time leader in steals, tying the previous record during a game against Bethel where she recorded 15 points and six assists. She broke the record outright in the following game against Wisconsin Lutheran. By the end of the week, White had accumulated 305 career steals, ranking her second among active NCAA Division III players and making her one of only eight current student-athletes across all NCAA divisions to surpass 300 career steals.
Her performance included a career-high 37 points in a CCIW matchup against Carroll on Saturday. In that game, she shot 13-of-19 from the field and made eight three-pointers—the most by an Illinois Wesleyan player since 2008—while also contributing eight steals, four assists, and three rebounds.
Over these three games, White shot 51 percent from the field, 53 percent from beyond the arc, and was perfect at the free-throw line with nine attempts.
The CCIW also listed previous weekly honorees for women’s basketball for the ongoing season: Kristin Bukata (Elmhurst), Biz Daly (North Central), Nikkel Johnson (Millikin), Natalie Gricius (Carroll), Anna Kleszynski (Elmhurst), and Grace Cord (Carthage).
