Illinois lawmakers in D.C. aim to ban sewage dumping into Great Lakes

U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL), along with U.S. Reps. Robert Dold (R-Dist. 10), Mike Quigley (D-Dist. 5) and Daniel Lipinski (D-Dist. 3), recently introduced Great Lakes Water Protection Act (GLWPA) legislation on Wednesday. GLWPA sets a 2035 deadline to end sewage dumping in the Great Lakes in an effort to ensure the availability of clean water for the next generation and to lessen the economic impact beach closures have on local communities every year.

Bill sponsored by Kirk targets sex trafficking of minors

Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) has played a part in Congress passing S.B. 178, the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act, that includes two measures he sponsored -- the Stop Advertising Victims of Exploitation (SAVE) Act and the HERO Act -- to combat online sex trafficking and the sale of minors for sex.

Kirk defends positions on Ex-Im Bank renewal, trade-authority bills

U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) visited Boeing Co. on Saturday in St. Louis and explained how the Export-Import Bank and trade keep Boeing, its suppliers and local exporters on a level playing field with global competitors such as China. “I have broken with many members of my party on this because Illinois is an export state, and American jobs should stay in America,” Kirk said. “We have no excuse to lose the Boeing 737 to China’s C919.”

Kirk attends Bahá’í event, condemns Iranian persecution

U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) attended the grand opening of the Welcome Center at the Bahá’í House of Worship on Monday in Wilmette. “The Iranian regime continues to arrest its own citizens simply for being Bahá’í,” Kirk said. “As we approach seven years since the seven top Bahá’í leaders in Iran were imprisoned because of their faith, I join Bahá’í worshipers in Illinois in standing against persecution around the world.”
