Judge denies pre-trial release for man accused in child pornography case

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and West Chicago Chief of Police Colin Fleury announced today that Judge Joshua Dieden granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release for a West Chicago man accused of possessing and disseminating child pornography. Marco Cruz, 39, of the 700 block of Lyman Street, appeared at First Appearance Court this morning charged with five counts of Child Pornography – Reproduce or Distribute – Victim Under 13, a Class X Felony.

Judge grants state's motion to detain second teen accused in hate crime

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Elmhurst Chief of Police Michael McLean announced today that Judge Demetrios Panoushis granted the State’s motion to detain an Elmhurst juvenile accused of carving swastikas into an elementary school’s playground equipment last month. The juvenile, one of two individuals charged in the case, will remain in custody until at least his next court appearance.

Villa Park man charged with hit-and-run involving teen cyclist

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Villa Park Chief of Police Michael Rivas announced today that Judge Joshua Dieden has denied the State’s motion to detain pre-trial a Villa Park man accused of fleeing the scene after he struck a bicyclist with his vehicle. Joel Lazaro, 50, of the 0-100 block of N. Westmore Avenue, appeared at First Appearance Court this morning charged with one count of Failure to Report an Accident Involving Personal Injury (Class 2 Felony) and one count of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Personal Injury or Death (Class 4 Felony).

Court denies pre-trial release for two men accused in separate gun-related incidents

Appellate court upholds 101-year sentence for armed abduction/sexual assault/robbery

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced today that the Third District Appellate Court of Illinois has affirmed the 101-year sentence of Justin Dalcollo for the abduction, sexual assault, and armed robbery of a female college student in March 2019. Dalcollo had petitioned for a new sentencing hearing, claiming that the trial court abused its discretion in sentencing and improperly imposed consecutive sentences.

Former police officer charged with theft and misconduct

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Glendale Heights Chief of Police George Pappas announced today that a former Glendale Heights police officer has been charged with official misconduct for allegedly misusing a village-issued credit card. On June 13, 2024, a DuPage County Grand Jury indicted Mark Garcia, 37, on three counts of Official Misconduct (Class 3 Felony) and two counts of Theft (Class 4 Felony). Judge Robert Rohm issued an arrest warrant for Garcia on the same day. He turned himself in to authorities last night and was released from custody.

Bloomingdale man sentenced for murder of handicapped nephew

Berlin announced today that a Bloomingdale man accused of killing his nephew in 2020 has been sentenced to fifty years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Isaiah Roach, 19, of the 5900 block of Warren Court appeared in First Appearance Court this morning charged with one count of Armed Robbery (Class X Felony), one count of Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle (Class 2 Felony), and one count of Theft (Class 2 Felony).
