Nikkel Johnson, a sophomore at Millikin University, has been named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week. The announcement was made on Monday.

Johnson earned this recognition after strong performances in the opening week of conference play. She scored 25 points and collected 14 rebounds in an away game against Elmhurst last Wednesday. On Saturday, she contributed 21 points and nine rebounds to help Millikin secure a 69-58 victory over North Park. Over both games, Johnson maintained shooting percentages above 63 percent, making 19 out of 29 attempts for a weekly average of 65.5 percent from the field.

For the week, Johnson averaged 23.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game.

The CCIW also listed previous winners of the Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week award for the current season: Natalie Gricius from Carroll (Dec. 1), Kristin Bukata from Elmhurst (Nov. 24), Anna Kleszynski from Elmhurst (Nov. 17), and Grace Cord from Carthage (Nov. 11).

“I am proud to be recognized by the CCIW,” Johnson said.
