Illinois officials report 7,144 coronavirus deaths, with 151,767 confirmed cases

There have been 151,767 confirmed coronavirus cases in Illinois as of July 10, with 7,144 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (54,676 cases) and Cook County (39,929 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago’s death toll from the virus stands at 2,666, while Cook County recorded 2,027 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,911,743, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 26,300 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 71,598 were male and 77,429 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,868, while female deaths stood at 3,269.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,180 Asians, 3,180 whites, 1,977 African-Americans, 1,474 Hispanics, and 171 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
