Stephanie Trussell, a Republican candidate for State Representative in Illinois’ 42nd District, has expressed that Governor JB Pritzker possesses the authority to reduce property and gas taxes. She suggests these measures could alleviate high costs attributed to state regulations and spending.
“Give Pritzker his argument that Trump is failing at making life affordable. He has the power to lower property and gas taxes,” said Trussell. “Due to regulations, taxes and fees, blue states have higher costs. In Illinois Dems are breaking spending records. which means squeezing tax payers.”
According to Trussell, she posted on X addressing affordability challenges and argued that Governor Pritzker can directly lower property and gas taxes to ease burdens on residents. She attributes higher costs in blue states to regulations, taxes, fees, and record Democratic spending in Illinois.
Illinois currently holds the highest effective property tax rate in the nation at 1.83 percent, resulting in an average annual bill exceeding $4,500 on a median home. The state’s gasoline motor fuel tax rate is 48.3 cents per gallon, contributing to elevated driving costs for residents. Recent state budgets have shown significant spending increases, placing additional pressure on taxpayers amid ongoing out-migration.
High property tax rates are common in many Democratic-led states, with Illinois topping the list at a 1.83 percent effective rate nationally. States with elevated taxes and regulations often experience higher overall living costs compared to lower-tax regions. Domestic out-migration from high-tax states has persisted as residents relocate to areas offering reduced fiscal burdens.
Trussell is a Republican candidate for the Illinois House of Representatives in District 42. She previously ran for lieutenant governor in 2022 as Darren Bailey’s running mate. Her campaign focuses on reducing taxes and promoting fiscal responsibility for Illinois families.
