In 2024, Hinsdale Police Department officers responded to 346 offenses, according to the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS).

This equates to an average of one offense per day for the year.

Among the various crime categories tracked by NIBRS, identity theft occurred most often, with 60 recorded cases in 2024.

As intended, NIBRS provides greater detail and context to crime statistics. Under earlier reporting protocols, only the most severe offense linked to an incident would be counted. For instance, if there was a homicide, aggravated assault and a theft in one event, only the homicide was reported.

Law enforcement agencies at all levels utilize this system.
