Former state university employee Bruett paid in K to pension fund, could collect K in retirement

Former state university employee Vincent Bruett, who retired in July 2017, saved $2,252 toward a pension over 10 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Bruett would collect as much as $19,741, according to a projection by Local Information Services (LGIS), which publishes DuPage Policy Journal.

The projection assumes Bruett received $414 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 6 years of retirement, Bruett will have already received $2,677 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree’s contributions to the state pension fund.
