FOIA Request to City of Darien regarding vendor payment registers on November 10, 2025.

The DuPage Policy Journal has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Darien, Illinois. The request seeks access to existing vendor payment registers maintained by the city for the period from January 1, 2025, to March 31, 2025. The records requested include details such as the names of vendors paid by the city, dates and amounts of payments, and the purpose or description of goods and services provided.

The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The DuPage Policy Journal emphasized that they are seeking only records that already exist and are not requesting the creation of new documents. They have requested that these records be provided in electronic format if possible.

The requester highlighted their role as a media organization committed to gathering and reporting related to local governmental affairs. They underscored the importance of access to public records in fulfilling their professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. In light of this role, they have requested a fee waiver as media professionals.

Additionally, it is noted that the requester is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a organization that assists media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through FOIA requests. More information about this organization can be found on their website here.
