In the sprints, North Central’s Randy Reed began his senior year by setting a school record in the 300 meters with a time of 34.53 at the Blue Demon Holiday Invite on December 12. He also tied for the conference lead in the 60 meters with a time of 6.88 at the Pat Heenan Invite last Saturday. Augustana’s Tyreke Fortney matched Reed’s mark in the 60 meters at the Bumble Rumble on the same day, creating early competition atop the sprint leaderboard.
Carthage freshman Landon Voye broke a long-standing school record in his debut at the Forever Red Alumni Classic on December 6, running 22.21 in the 200 meters. After conversion for track size, his time ranks him among national leaders and sits seventeenth nationally.
North Central’s Alexander Knight recorded a time of 6.93 seconds in the 60 meters at the Cardinal Opener on January 9, placing him third within CCIW history.
Distance events have also produced strong results. North Central’s BJ Sorg ran an indoor personal best of 14:15.43 in the 5,000 meters at the Frigid Bee Opener on December 6, ranking fourth nationally. Carthage senior Jacob Curulewski set a program record with a time of 14:44.77 at GVSU Holiday Open, now nineteenth nationally.
Relay teams are showing depth as well; Illinois Wesleyan posted this season’s fastest conference time in the men’s 4×400 relay last Saturday with Dylan Hodges, Noah Sadowski, Alex Maas, and Carson Green finishing in 3:29.14.
In throwing events, Carthage senior Tyler Rose leads both shot put and weight throw after recording personal bests last weekend—16.37 meters (shot put) and 18.95 meters (weight throw). His weight throw performance is currently third-best nationwide.
Jumps continue to provide scoring opportunities across programs. Carthage freshman Hayden Rollins cleared a school-record height of 4.75 meters in pole vaulting on December 6 to rank eighth nationally.
Augustana junior AJ Banks leads CCIW hurdlers after running an event-best of 8.41 seconds last Saturday at Bumble Rumble.
Teams will continue their seasons this weekend with competitions including Carthage attending Ripon’s Red Hawk Opener Friday; North Central, Elmhurst, North Park and Illinois Wesleyan competing at Chicago’s Aurora Grand Prix; Carroll participating in Whitewater’s Karl Schlender Invitational; Millikin heading to Jacksonville’s IC Snow Bird Invite; and Augustana returning for Mount Vernon’s Hilltop Invitational.
