Rep. Grant of Illinois recently introduced House Bill 1879, which aims to enforce a photo ID requirement for picking up prescriptions of Schedule II Controlled Substances at pharmacies in the state. Grant stated, "I filed legislation that would require a valid photo ID to pick up prescriptions of Schedule II Controlled Substances at Illinois pharmacies."

Despite garnering support from more than two dozen bipartisan cosponsors, Grant expressed disappointment as the bill did not even receive a debate in the House. Grant lamented, "However despite having more than two dozen, bi-partisan cosponsors on the bill, it wasn’t even called for a debate."

In light of the legislative setback, Grant highlighted the dysfunction in Springfield, stating, "If you are still looking for a sign that Springfield is broken, than look no further than this story." Grant emphasized the importance of preventing the abuse of prescription drugs, particularly heavy painkillers, adding, "Keeping often abused prescription drugs – like heavy painkillers – from falling into the wrong hands should not become some partisan stalemate."

Grant encouraged constituents to share their feedback on the issue by reaching out via email at Grant@ILHousegop.org.
