Dennis Reboletti, the Republican candidate for the state Senate 23rd District seat, seeks to repeal SAFE-T Act if elected.

Reboletti recently said he has many concerns regarding the SAFE-T Act and has faulted Sen. Suzy Glowiak Hilton (D-Western Springs) for not voting on the legislation

“The SAFE-T Act is the worst piece of criminal law ever passed in Illinois and Cook County Sen. Suzy Glowiak-Hilton wouldn’t even vote to stop it," Reboletti said. "The DuPage County Jail will need a revolving door to keep processing violent offenders out of custody. Not only does it make DuPage County less safe, it will cost you more."

A former assistant state's attorney in Will County, Reboletti said the legislation will overload the sheriff, state’s attorney, and public defender, and counties will not have enough staff to implement the law. He said jurisdictions will need more money and the taxpayers will get the bill.

"Cook County Suzy’s silence on this disastrous legislation is deafening. As your senator, the first bill I will file is to repeal this monstrosity," Reboletti said.

According to Patch, Glowiak Hilton "decided not to vote in favor or against" the SAFE-T Act. Glowiak Hilton added that while she believes "in reform and support aspects in the proposal, I considered the misgivings from law enforcement, community officials and the many residents I am privileged to represent. This complex issue deserved more time for discussion, negotiation and collaboration to ensure their concerns were addressed.”

Reboletti said that residents "need someone who will have our back all the time and make the tough decisions that best represent our district. Suzy is clearly not this person because she would rather not make any decision at all instead of the tough and right decision for her district."

Republican lawmakers, according to ABC7, believe that the SAFE-T Act could impose a financial burden. DuPage County projected that in over five years, the measure will cost over $60 million to implement.

"J.B. Pritzker and the legislative Democrats have now proven the following phrase: crime does pay to the detriment of taxpayers and law-abiding citizens," Rep. Jim Durkin (R-Burr Ridge) said.

Reboletti supports plans to repeal SAFE-T Act if elected. Early this month, he shared his experience meeting with police officers to listen to their concerns and noted that he "will always have the backs of the men and women who put on the uniform everyday to protect and keep us safe!"

Reboletti was endorsed by the Supreme Board of the United Hellenic Voters of America (UHVA).  The organization serves as the central hub between the Greek-American Community and politicians and it provides the community with potential "candidates that will lead our state and nation into success and stability," according to a press release.
