State Representative House District 43 candidate Rich Janor argued that the state's Democrats need to realize the mistake they made in passing the Safe-T Act and repeal the law before it takes effect on Jan. 1, 2023.

Janor believes that public safety is the top concern for many voters in DuPage County, and with The Safe-T Act to be implemented next year, the community will become less safe.

“As a coach and business owner I learned that when you make a mistake you need to recognize it and correct it, not double down on the mistake,” Janor said in a statement. “This is what Janet Yang Rohr and the Springfield Democrats need to do with this Safe-T Act. Crime is already out of control in Chicago and creeping into DuPage and Will Counties. They need to listen to the bi-partisan chorus of State’s Attorneys and correct their mistake before it’s too late.”

Many, Democrats and Republicans, have been warning of the impending release of thousands of prisoners across the state currently being held captive awaiting trial for serious crimes, Will County Gazette reported. The bill requires courts to increase the processing speed of those awaiting trial. If it goes into effect as planned the Safe-T Act will result in the release of those charged with the most serious crimes including robbery, kidnapping, arson, second-degree murder, intimidation, aggravated battery, aggravated DUI, aggravated flight, drug-related homicide as well as threatening a public official.

House Minority Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) noted his support for Janor over incumbent State Rep. Janet Yang-Rohr. Durkin said DuPage voters have an option this election cycle to "choose Democrats like Stava-Murray and Yang Rohr and their disastrous soft-on-crime policies, or they can choose House Republican candidates like Paul Leong and Rich Janor that are focused on restoring law and order and public safety to our communities,” Prairie State Wire reported.

Of the state’s attorneys across Illinois, 100 of 102 are in support of repealing or changing the act, according to Madison-St. Clair Record.
