NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 5:36 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a call for a basement fire in a two-story single-family residence located in the 1100 block of Langley Circle. Naperville 911(PSAP) dispatched a general alarm assignment consisting of 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 personnel, including an incident commander and incident safety officer, to the reported address.

At 5:40 a.m., the first vehicle arrived on scene and discovered a working fire in the basement. Companies quickly stretched hose lines to the basement and began an aggressive interior attack. Suppression efforts were hampered due to the extreme smoke conditions they encountered. By 6 a.m., the fire was extinguished. However, fire companies remained on the scene for another 30 minutes extinguishing hotspots and ventilating the building.

The residents were alerted to the fire by their smoke detectors. All five residents, including the family dog, were able to safely evacuate prior to the fire department’s arrival. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Naperville Fire Department fire investigation team. There were no injuries to any occupants or firefighters while operating on the scene. The building was deemed to be uninhabitable by the Naperville Transportation, Engineering, and Development Team. The blaze is estimated to have caused over $100,000 in damages.
