DuPage Republican Party Chairman Jim Zay says that aggravated battery charges for biting a police officer might be the least of Democratic precinct committeewoman Samantha Wilson’s problems.

“After her arrest, I was informed she created a GoFundMe account set up to assist with a rare ailment, Takotsubo heartbreak syndrome, which I can only assume may have affected her behavior in conjunction with the other drugs found in her possession,” Zay told the DuPage Policy Journal. “If a judge confirms her medical and drug issues caused the problem, that should be taken into account in determining her punishment. If she lied about her medical condition and medical bills and collected money online under false pretenses, then she has a much bigger problem in addition to biting a police officer.”

According to news reports, on July 7, Elmhurst police discovered Wilson, 32, of Lombard, slumped over the wheel of her car about 11 a.m. near state Road 83 and St. Charles Road.

Officers said they determined that she was under the influence of drugs, the police report said. During the investigation, a struggle ensued, which is when Wilson allegedly bit an officer's left forearm.

Wilson, who is campaign manager for Jeff Jacobson's run for circuit court judge, was charged with aggravated battery, DUI (drugs), marijuana possession and improper lane usage.

According to her LinkedIn account, Wilson has been active in DuPage County politics since 2015. She was appointed precinct committeewoman in York Township in 2016, later elected to York District 107 in 2017.

“For four years I have made a concerted effort to turn DuPage County blue,” she wrote on her account.

Attempts to reach Wilson and Jacobson's campaign were unsuccessful.
