While preserves in DuPage County remain open to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is urging visitors to practice social distancing.

The rise in the mercury has many in the area wanting to head outdoors. The Centers for Disease Control allows exercise outside of the home as long as individuals are alone and apportioning 6 feet of space between themselves and others.

To deter crowds, the district will closely patrol preserve parking lots. The more popular reserves will be restricted to solely DuPage residents.

Should a person arrive at a crowded preserve, they are to go to a less-crowded preserve or return during off-peak hours, according to the district. The preserves are open from an hour before sunrise to sunset.

Last week, the district blocked access to Rocky Glen Waterfall at Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve near Darien to deter people violating social-distancing orders.
