Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 Board of Education met Oct. 8.

2. Recognition

A. Shining Star

Mr. Chris Kocinski introduced Shelley Rzewuski, Lincoln Elementary School teacher, thanked her for her connection with students and honored her with a Shining Star Award.

Mrs. Trautmann introduced Corinne Fagan, First Grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary School, thanked her for her work with students and parents, and honored her with a Shining Star Award.

3. Public Comments

A. The Board will receive public comments for up to three minutes concerning items on this agenda, as well as communication, petitions, reports from citizens or representatives of other public agencies.

4. Reports and Presentations

A. Key Performance Indicators/School Report Card Information/School Improvement Report (Lemke/Tammaru/Grens/DeLockery)

Mrs. Mariann Lemke provided a review of key performance indicators (KPIs). She discussed Postsecondary and High School Achievement and Growth Indicators and provided national data as well as District 205 data.

Mr. Kocinski voiced concern about the data. He noted a want to compare our district to D205 history and other competing districts.

Dr. Harrell discussed benchmarks and SAT and Graduation rates as well as growth rates.

Mr. Collins voiced concern for AP test pass rates and the Board discussed AP courses vs. ACP courses. The Board discussed how ACP and AP courses are reported on a school report card.

Mrs. Tammaru provided an update on Learning Strands.

Mr. Grens provided an overview of Supervision of Instruction. He noted intentionally and engagement of Principals. He discussed PLC’s and problem-solving to help close gaps.

Mrs. Tammaru discussed Instructional coaches. She noted that school improvement plans aim to close gaps.

Mrs. DeLockery, Principal at Emerson Elementary, provided an overview of the work being done at Emerson on the School Improvement Plan.

Mrs. Stuefen discussed homework. Mrs. Trautmann asked about how the district is doing in preparing students to be life ready in career opportunities.

The Board discussed Math and ELA numbers, school accountability, PLC’s.

Mrs. DeLockery provided opportunities in which Emerson is closing the achievement gap.

Mr. Kocinski asked about evaluations tied to Student growth.

B. Recommended Course Proposals for 2020-2021 (Grens)

Mr. Scott Grens provided an overview of Recommended Course Proposals for 2020-2021.

Mr. Cohen provided a historical look at Project Lead the Way courses.

Mr. Kocinski and Mr. Collins voiced concern for a mindfulness course at York.

The Board expressed that they would like to see all the course materials and texts for the mindfulness course.

5. Superintendent's Communication

A. Sandburg 8th Grade Interdisciplinary Unit - Elmhurst 2030

Dr. Moyer discussed Sandburg 8th Grade Interdisciplinary Unit. He showed a video about the Innovation Learning pilot.

Mr. Collins voiced his support for innovation within the District.

B. "Tweet of the Week"

Mrs. Redmond showed a tweet from Dr. Christina Podraza, Principal at Jefferson Elementary School about positive phone calls home.

6. Board Communications

A. Board members will present reports and/or share information with the full Board.

Mrs. Caforio noted a committee meeting workshop for November 12th, 2019 with the full board.
