Here is the minutes provided by the Commission:

In Attendance: Jackie Tamer, Dannee Polomsky, Marisa Mancini, Derek Schlager, Anne Zimmer, Dan Corrigan, Melea Smith, Kim Brigman, Mark Soehn and Patricia McKernan

Absent:, Nick Waldemeyer Sharon Karpiel, Annie Jaworska, Joey Kalwat, Jan DeCoursey, and Bob Rasho

Commission Updates

 We have an open position as Joey Kalwat is now ex officio

Vaping program Dannee

 Vaping program update. Dannee expects the program to be recommend tonight at the Public Affairs & Safety meeting and then going to council next week. First intention of the program, is teachable moments.

Also to require a license not just for the sale of tobacco but the sale of all tobacco related products.

Teen Job and Volunteer Fair, Wednesday, March 14 updates Jackie/Kim

 48 companies, up significantly from last year. The event is this Wednesday, March 14th at York High School 3 to 6 pm. Close to 50/50 volunteer to job opportunities, leaning slightly towards volunteer. We will explore purchasing CIty of Elmhurst bags for next year. Lakeshore Bank donated pens and other goodies.

Youth Exemplary Service Awards, Wednesday, April 18 7pm at Sandburg

 24 individual nominations (double last year!)/12 group nominations, totaling 86 kids

 Judges: Alderman Marti Deuter, Deputy Police Chief McLean and Deputy Fire Chief Anaszewicz. Dr. Moyer and Mayor Morley will both participate.

 Jackie will email the week following D205 spring break to form a committee of 3 - 4 to review of tally sheets

 Cupcakes, cookies, etc… ordered

 Cartwheel for Kids to speak; also looking at a past winner in High School

Future Speakers

 When Jackie attended the Glenbard Parenting Networking luncheon, Tim Ryan, TimRyanSpeaks.com, was again recommended as a possible speaker. His typical fee is $6,000 but $3,500 for area school. Jackie will explore the cost of a family event for the community. Jackie will also ask the Lake County Judge to speak. “The Man in Recovery” is his upcoming documentary.

 Judge in Lake County for cyber safety. Commission would like to do this as a separate event as it applies to a wider group. Possibly post-holiday?
