Lisle police hosting free self-defense workshop for women

Women in the Lisle area interested in learning self defense can check out the Lisle Police Department's  free self-defense workshop for women from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at 5040 Lincoln Ave., a news release on Lisle's website said.

One Light Self-Defense will provide training for the workshop, which is open to women of all ages, a release on village's website said.

The workshop will cover safety awareness; tactics for avoidance; techniques for striking an assailant; how to defend against chokes, hair pulls, grabs and bear hugs; and misconceptions about self defense. 

Attendees should wear clothing that is comfortable and shoes appropriate for a workout.

Women interested in attending the workshop are encouraged apply early to reserve a spot. To participate in the workshop, email Lisle Police Officer Cindy McKay by Jan. 7 atcmckay@villageoflisle.org.
