As the holiday season winds down, Wheaton who want to dispose of old holiday lights and extension cords can drop them off for recycling at the city's Public Works storage facility through Feb. 5.

Eligin Recycling will be collecting old incandescent or LED lights and extension cords in any condition to process for copper and plastic parts, a city release said.

Residents, schools, businesses or other organizations may dispose of the lights and extension cords between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at 820 W. Liberty Drive.

“This program is for light strings and extension cords only. Please do not drop off lawn ornaments, and do not put lights in a bag or box,” the release said. There is no limit as to how many lights that can be dropped off.
