Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) issued a warning recently that with little time left before the end of fiscal year 2017, the General Assembly must reach a compromise budget deal.

“I am hopeful we will have productive sessions, legislative leader meetings with true engagement from all four leaders, and bipartisan efforts toward compromise,” the Senate minority leader said in a statement. “I and my Caucus believe a comprehensive solution is within reach and we ought to do everything possible to achieve it before July 1. The alternative to not finding compromise will be devastating to Illinois."

If state lawmakers do not reach an agreement, Illinois will begin a third straight year without a full budget. It also risks the likelihood of becoming the first state in history to be downgraded to junk bond status.

"I am anxious to return to the Capitol to continue our work on a comprehensive budget solution,” Radogno said in her statement. “We have a very real deadline looming as we close yet another fiscal year without a budget in place.”
