Incumbent Kevin Coyne is celebrating his re-election to Naperville City Council after garnering the second-most votes in Tuesday’s election.

Coyne collected 4,638 votes in DuPage County, or approximately 15 percent of county votes. He claimed 14.36 percent of the votes in Will County.

“We were very happy with last night's results,” Coyne told DuPage Policy Journal.

Coyne, an attorney with Momkus McCluskey Roberts, was first elected to the council in 2015. In addition to practicing law, Coyne has served on the boards of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Naperville Jaycees, Naperville Last Fling and the Exchange Club.

His campaign was run by Bruce Hanson, former chairman of the city’s Financial Advisory Board. He was supported by the Naperville Chamber PAC and the Naperville Daily Herald, as well as many public officials and business people in the community.

“Our campaign placed well in both DuPage and Will County,” Coyne said. “The road district consolidation initiative that I worked on with a few other officials passed. Our team was very pleased."

Coyne joined incumbents Judy Brodhead and John Krummen and newcomer Benny White in claiming seats on the council.

“The voters in Naperville have provided us with a mandate to consolidate government and reduce taxes,” Coyne said. “I plan to listen to them. All government bodies in Illinois need to find more ways to lower taxpayer costs through partnering and consolidation. I plan to pursue such initiatives aggressively over the next four years."

Coyne classifies himself as a fiscal conservative and said he plans to continue his financial success in his next term.

“I’m committed to spending my next term in office working hard to make sure Naperville remains one of the best places in the country to settle down and raise a family,” Coyne said in a prior interview with the Will County Gazette.

Election results remain unofficial. They will be officially announced on April 25, and  candidates will be sworn in on April 30.
