Downers Grove ranked 494th in state in lottery ticket sales for January 2016

The Village of Downers Grove had the 494th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of January 2016 -- up 19 spots from its December ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Downers Grove was $24.24 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the Dupage Policy Journal, Downers Grove generated $1,205,463.50 in net sales from its 31 lottery retailers in January 2016, compared to $868,859.50 in January 2015.

The Village of Downers Grove is in DuPage County, and has a population of 49,732, according to 2010 census data. Neighboring municipalities are Darien, Glen Ellyn, Lisle, Westmont, Lombard, Oak Brook and Woodridge.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in January 2016 was $42,258.22.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
