Republican candidate for Illinois House District 46 Heidi Holan threw her support behind lawmakers following the filing of Joint House Resolution 158 last week.

The resolution is focused on removing Auditor General Frank Mautino from office.

The action arose after state and federal probes into irregularities in Mautino's campaign finances. Prior to his appointment as Auditor General, while still a member of the House, he had made $259,000 in payments to a local bank over the last 17 years. He also spent approximately $200,000 in gasoline purchases and car repairs at a single service station over a 10-year period.

Upon questioning by legislators, Mautino refused to respond. He also refused to take an unpaid leave from office until the investigations were complete.

“The Auditor General has repeatedly refused to respond to questions by members of the General Assembly and the State Board of Elections," Holan said. "There are allegations of misappropriation of campaign funds, ethical concerns, and potential conflicts of interest by Mautino and his staff that cannot be ignored. Mautino has refused to address the concerns of the people and he is the subject of an ongoing federal investigation. Taxpayers deserve an Auditor General beyond reproach. As state representative, I will insist on transparency and accountability at all levels of our state government. We need taxpayer-friendly policies implemented by trustworthy officials committed to serving people, not politicians."
