According to assessments by the DuPage County Health Department, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the risk of contracting the virus is very low in DuPage county.
The mosquito that carries the Zika virus is rarely found in northern Illinois at any time of the year, but especially during the winter.
Most confirmed cases of Zika within the United States have been related to travel to Central and South America as well as the Caribbean. Therefore, people residing in or traveling to these areas are at the highest risk of infection.
Zika symptoms are usually mild and only last for a few days. However, the virus has been linked to birth defects in babies whose Mothers are infected while pregnant.
