There’s good news for pet owners in Elk Grove Village.

After last month’s vote by the Village Board to eliminate pet licensing, residents are no longer required to license their pets. With such strong participation in the pet-microchipping program, the village’s licensing system had become antiquated and redundant.

Village Animal Control reminds pet owners that, per the laws of Cook County, they still must have pets vaccinated against rabies and must have tags attached to collars for proof of vaccination.

If you find a stray pet, or lose your own pet, please contact the Village Police Department at 847-357-4100. Local police are equipped with information and tools to retrieve owner information from microchips and rabies tags, and will assist you in locating the rightful owner of a lost animal.

For more information on what can be done to find a lost pet, please go to www.elkgrove.org/about/faqs#84.
