The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) has postponed a planned accreditation visit to the College of DuPage (COD) scheduled for today following the resignation of one of its members.
Jackson (Miss.) Community College President Dan Phelan, who was scheduled to participate in the COD visit, resigned from the HLC after the watchdog group Illinois Leaks published two articles saying Phelan was not qualified to serve on the commission.
Phelan allegedly spent thousands of dollars in public funds on alcohol, meals and trees for his home without approval by the college's board.
"Phelan is tainted with corruption and inappropriate spending at Jackson College and has no business serving on the Higher Learning Commission or any other public office under the circumstances," Illinois Leaks wrote in an article published on its website over the weekend.
Phelan allegedly received a vote of no confidence at the Mississippi college from two union groups.
